In 1993, an enthusiastic group of teachers, coaches and administrators came together to form a committee later named the “Oakcrest Wall of Fame Committee”. This committee’s goal was to recognize the athletic talents, achievements, and contributions of our alumni, former staff, and supporters. This recognition, “WALL”, became a reality when physical education teacher, Carol Rott, was named “Teacher of the Year”. Carol decided to use her stipend award to establish our existing Wall of Fame. The initial induction year of 1994 saw 12 Alumni and 2 “Specials” inducted into what has now become an annual school wide event.

Each year the committee members volunteer their time to review nominees, select the inductees, raise money to continue the wall’s existence, and plan the events that will honor inductees.

On induction day, the inductees are given a reception in our Library, where they meet their student escorts who will lead them during their public introduction during the half time show of a home football game. Later, the Oakcrest Choir leads an inspirational unveiling of the inductee’s plague at the “Wall”, followed by an evening of reminiscing and fellowship at dinner to honor the inductees.

Over the years, so many of our current students have become involved in the celebration of these individuals. Student escorts, band members, the choir, and the GAA, continue to promote the outpouring of our Falcon Pride.

The “Wall of Fame” has served as a place for students, staff, and the public to gather and reflect on the accomplishments of some of our most outstanding alumni and staff. We, the committee, hope the “Wall” continues to inspire our students to dream and to achieve, to motivate them towards athletic and character excellence, and to honor those who have been selected to the “Wall”.

Oakcrest High School is proud to sponsor of the “Spirit of the Athletic Wall of Fame.”
