In Conclusion
Oakcrest High School is a microcosm of American society from an academic,
economic, racial, and social perspective. Despite the challenging
student mobility rate of approximately 21%, our school maintains
an excellent daily attendance of 92%. We are proud that 100% of our
students in the class of 2007 passed both sections of the New Jersey
High School Proficiency Assessment. Significant improvement has also
been realized in recent years in Advanced Placement and Scholastic
Assessment Test scores. These positive trends in standardized test
results are encouraging, and the administration and faculty at Oakcrest
remains committed to seeking ways to improve student achievement.
Oakcrest High School has been successful over the years in establishing
school/business/community partnerships with Hispanic Alliance of
Atlantic County, Society for Black Engineers, and the Hamilton
Township Police Department. In addition, Oakcrest has initiated
a number of innovative curricular related activities. One example
would be our annual three-day school wide interdisciplinary curricular
theme project. Last year the theme was the Jersey Shore. From the
first to the last bell, for three full days, students relived and
learned about the Jersey Shore through a variety of events, speakers,
lessons, displays, demonstrations and hands on activities. It proved
to be an enjoyable experience and fostered a sense of pride and
camaraderie within our school community.
The Oakcrest High School faculty remains committed to professional
development with over a large number of educators returning to
school to earn advanced degrees. A thriving faculty mentor program
and extensive student peer leadership programs in mediation, counseling,
and tutoring have strengthened our school climate and academic
achievement. We remain eager and honored to provide all students
at Oakcrest High School with an exciting opportunity to achieve
academically, socially and morally.
