Students at Oakcrest High School
recently welcomed Jaci Juliano, Assistant Branch Manager and Bank
at Work Coordinator for Commerce Bank in the English Creek office.
Juliano presented a program on
bank accounts, writing checks, and keeping a check register. She
stressed the importance of keeping your own up to date records.
During the presentation, students made out sample checks and calculated
a check register. According to Related Arts Teacher Sheela Corry,
who organized the event, “It was reinforcement of what they
had been doing in the money management unit of Family and Consumer
Science class.”
Juliano also presented the opportunities
for employment and advancement in working in banking. She explained
how students can start as tellers as young as 17-years old and
work their way up in the bank. She also told students of the bank’s
policy of tuition reimbursement for college business courses. As
part of the presentation, each student will also receive a $10
voucher for opening an account at Commerce to encourage students
to start saving for the future.
“This was one of the best
programs we have had so far for both money management and employment
opportunities for students,”commented Corry.
