Oakcrest
High School and Johnson & Wales University have signed
an articulation agreement allowing business students to earn college
credits. The agreement will become effective with the high school
graduation classes of 2006-2007. To transfer credits, students
must earn a “B” average, complete the required admissions
application, submit an official school transcript, and submit a
letter of recommendation from their instructor.
Johnson & Wales evaluated the Oakcrest business curriculum
and teacher qualifications before approving the following courses:
Stock Market & Investments will count as 4.5 credits in Introduction
to Investments and Financial Planning, College Prep Accounting
will transfer 5.5 credits in Principles of Accounting I & Lab
or Hospitality Accounting I & Lab or Business Accounting I & Lab,
and Consumer Finance & Economics will count as 4.5 credits
in Money & Banking. Computer Application courses are still
being reviewed by the university.
“A high percentage of college students major or minor in
an area of business, and this agreement will allow our students
to get a head start in their business education,” stated
Business Teacher Joseph Cirigliano. Next year, Cirigliano added
that he would like to apply for reciprocation agreements with area
colleges to further expand opportunities for business students.
