OHS STUDENTS CELEBRATE MEXICAN HOLIDAY
Oakcrest High School students in Kaiya Allison’s Foreign
Language Experience (FLEX) classes recently celebrated the Mexican
holiday, Dia De Los Muertos (Day
of the Dead). Students
and teachers brought in authentic Spanish foods for the celebration. They also sampled authentic refreshments such
as flan, empanadas and Mexican sodas.
“This was the final
activity in a week-long unit that included a web quest, a video,
and many traditional crafts,” explained Allison.
All who participated
were excited about the opportunity. “This was a fun way for the students to examine
the differences between Mexican culture and their own culture,” said
Allison. “Through the food sampling
and crafts, students received a hands-on experience of the Dia De
Los Muertos celebration.”
“The
empanadas were good,” said TJ Carmen, freshman.
“It
was very interesting and the food was good,” commented Alvin Cantona, junior.
