Oakcrest
High School students recently participated in a fund raiser
for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. History Teacher Doug
Cervi, the Girls Athletic Association, and the Social Studies
Seminar class organized the event. Using
an idea from another high school, Oakcrest played the annoying
song called The Song That Never Ends to encourage people to
remember to bring their money for the fundraiser. Since the
song is quite repetitious, everyone was more than willing to
donate in order for the song to stop playing!
“We
saw the idea on the news. Another school in Pennsylvania was
playing “mmmBop” and we just ran with the idea.
The staff and students were very generous,” stated Cristine
Sanchez, seminar teacher.
Oakcrest
had a wonderful turnout, raising $2,500. “The fundraiser
helped us come together and help those less fortunate. Hopefully,
we can do more activities like this in the future,” senior
Sarah Mason said.
