After
the tragic events of 9/11, ceramic studios across the country joined
together to offer a creative outlet to the people of the nation.
Thousands of Americans have decorated ceramic tiles with a specialized
paint to make mini-memorials. The tiles have been added to the
exhibition mending fence. Tiles left on the mending fence will
become a part of the organization Tiles for America which will
display the tiles on the New York memorial that is located at the
corner of 7th Avenue and 11th Street
You
can be part of the Mending Fence – Here’s how.
1.
Design a sketch that reflects patriotism, heroism, courage, unity,
or other positive themes that are indicative of your feelings toward
this tragedy. Your sketch should be representative of Oakcrest High
School and needs to be transferable to a ceramic tile.
2. Submit you design ideas to Ms. Miller in room 406
3. Submissions will be displayed outside of library and the faculty will vote
for 5 best designs submitted by the student body
4. The top 5 will be aired on Falcon TV and the student body will then vote
for the tile they feel best represents Oakcrest High School
5. The winning design will be painted on a tilt sent to the NY Memorial
SUBMISSION

Individual
students may also make their own tiles. Tiles can be purchased for
$2.00 from Ms. Bryce in room 323. Completed tiles should be turned
in to Mrs. Finn in room 223. All completed tiles will be sent to
the National Constitution Center and then to the NY Memorial.
