English Department
Cassandra (Cassie) Bunje- Cassie comes to Oakcrest from Stockton having graduated summa cum laude in Literature and Education. In late Spring, Cassie was awarded the Commissioner’s Distinguished Teacher Candidate Award by the state of New Jersey. Cassie spent the beginning of her “adult” years in the business world, working in finance administration and insurance, and hating it passionately. Thus, she considers herself a late-bloomer, having finally discovered what she was born to do. As Jerry Garcia once sang, “Once in a while you see the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.” Through thick and thin, Cassie is a rabid Yankee fan. She loves the beach and all things associated with it: sun, surf, sand and sunscreen. Cassie enjoys spending time with her husband, her 4-year old Jack Russell terrier and her three cats.

Leah Poane- Leah, originally from Toms River, is newly returned to New Jersey after spending a year teaching 8th graders in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She graduated from the Templeton Honors College at Eastern University with a BA in English/Communications for Secondary Education, but what she remembers most fondly about her four years there is the time she spent helping other students become better writers in the Eastern Writing Center as a Writing Consultant. Within a month of graduating, she went on to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary English. An avid reader, Leah loves nothing better than a book on tape during a long drive or a short novel to eat away at her afternoon, especially curled up with one of her three cats: Onyx, Kit Kat or Pashmina.
