They
say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. However,
it’s inevitable that people will. That is why the Oakcrest
National Honor Society (NHS) is revamping the garden at the front
of the school.
Within the
first week of June, all the overgrown shrubbery shrouding the true
beauty of Oakcrest will be removed. New plants and flowers
will accentuate the entrance of the Oak. “This is a lasting
change we can make. When we come back to visit years from now, I’ll
be able to say that I helped make this school a better place,” said
NHS Secretary Jeannie Weaver.
The NHS requested
help from several flower stores and received a $100 donation. “It’s a great thing that the NHS is
doing,” stated Advisor Gayle Bryce. “They’re really
trying hard to improve the atmosphere of the school.”
The beautification
idea had been floating around since early September. Now that the
weather is breaking, it’s time to fix things up. “I’m
excited to come to school and see some color up front,” said
Senior Christine Scannell. Starting a tradition, the NHS will be
responsible for replanting and maintaining the garden throughout
the years.
