Students and staff at Oakcrest High
School (OHS) are currently planning their third annual 3-day curricular
project scheduled to take place May 24-26, 2006 at the school.
This year’s project centers on the Olympics.
Plans for this year’s project
are well underway. Committee members are currently designing the
project and working from essential questions to ensure that the
project is cross-curricular. Staff will then design lessons for
the three days that pertain to the central questions. Past projects
included World War II (2003-04) and the Jersey Shore (2004-05).
This year’s chairpersons are
Dianne Robbins, Patricia Daily, Tammi McGarrigle, and Alicia Welsh,
all teachers at Oakcrest. Already planned are meet and greet former
Olympians, academic and athletic competitions, and opening and
closing ceremonies. In fact, an actual Olympic torch will be carried
into the opening ceremonies. T-Shirts with an original Oakcrest
Olympic design will be on sale. Classroom doors and hallways will
also be decorated and then judged with various prizes going to
the lucky winners. In addition, motivational speakers, a showcase
of flags and other exciting activities are in the planning stages.
Anyone in the community, including
parents and businesses, who would like to help with the project
should contact the school at 909-2600.
