OAK STUDENTS GET A TASTE OF
BROADWAY WITH “ONE ACTS”

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, three directors had a dream: to direct their own high school productions. Three Oakcrest High School seniors are doing exactly that with One Acts, OHS’s annual opportunity for students to design their own mini-productions to perform before the school. The production will take place on May 15 in the Oakcrest Auditorium.

Erin Hall is one of the seniors directing a production this year. Her chosen act is Dinner with the MacGuffins, a scene from a play originally written by Chris Sheppard and Jeff Grove. In this scene, a night of passion turns into a night of calamity when the family comes home. “This play is going to have you laughing from start until finish!” stated senior Emily Mehler, who plays the mother in the act. “It’s something everyone can relate to. Come out and see it!”

Amber Cruise is another amateur director for this event. Her act is Employees Must Wash Hands before Murder, and her actors are ecstatic to perform. With a title like that, this is sure to be an incredible act! “This is such a fun production,” stated senior Stephanie Lee, who plays a whimsical fairy in the act. “I can’t wait for everyone to see it!”

The third director is a student not uncommon to theatre. Senior Jon Henry has performed in every play Oakcrest had to offer during his four years, and he is more than ready to flex his theatrical fingers at the chance to direct. His act is actually a collection he put together himself, and is called Cubicle. The medley is about an unhappy man who tries to change his life for the better, but in the end wishes that he had just stayed the same. “This is, by far, the best act yet,” stated senior Rickie Van Scoy of the act in which he so proudly is a part of. “We’re a shoo-in for Best Director!”
