University, St. John's University, Fordham University, Iona College
3. What are you planning on majoring in and what

In terms of a major, I'm still exploring my
options. Here at the Oak, I excelled in both reasoning-
and analytically based studies, as well as discovered
passions for astronomy and human rights. I'm certain
that as I continue my education, that list will narrow
considerably. I want to feel as though I've made valuable
contributions to our world, regardless of what field
those contributions take shape in. I've always loved
taking charge, helping people, and solving problems,
and I intend to carry those skills well into the future.

When I auditioned for the Oaklympics Poetry Slam sophomore year, I was
biting my nails anxiously awaiting my decision, and Mr. Hall passed me
a slip of paper that read "You're going to Hollywood." This
led to me curling my hair into an Afro and performing three pieces in
front of peers and teachers in the Distance Learning Lab, and eventually
winning the silver medal.

What
was your most memorable high school experience?
Taking
Mr. Reina’s Honors World History class freshman year
changed my life. He was a truly inspirational teacher and
is an exceptional educator, who compels students to reach
their potential and maximize their abilities. To begin
a lecture to introduce the world religion unit, he asked
the class broadly and without a right answer, “What
if this is heaven?” This quote has been transcribed
onto notebooks, planners, and binders throughout my high
school career, as a motivation to work harder and maximize
my academic potential. This question, for me, raises a
series of philosophical inquires: What if I don’t
get another chance to prove myself? What if this opportunity
isn’t presented again? Do I want to miss this chance
to better myself? I thank this educator for providing me
with an infinite source of inspiration, which I will most
definitely carry with me for years to come.
