Letter to the Community
Dear Friends of Oakcrest High School
On April 6th and 7th, Oakcrest High School will host its sixth annual two-day interdisciplinary curriculum event. This years theme, Immigration, has provided the faculty with an unbelievable opportunity to focus an entire student body on one chosen topic for two days of concentrated study.
The teachers have planned lessons related to Immigration that will immerse the students in this topic for two event filled days. Each class has created a personal two-day lesson plan relating the theme of immigration to their particular subject area. In the coming weeks, these lesson plans will be available right here on the Immigration homepage.
We would like to extend an invitation to local educators, parents, members of the community, the media, and politicians to consider spending some time at Oakcrest during the two-day project in April. Perhaps you would like to sit in on a class, watch the students participate in projects, volunteer as a presenter or take part in one of the many planned activities over the two day span. We believe we have created something special that is not to be missed and we want to share the experience with the community outside of the high school as well as with our students.
If you are interested in attending either of the two days of our interdisciplinary project, please call Mike McGhee at (609) 909-2602, Supervisor, so that Visitors Passes can be arranged in advance. Perhaps, President Jimmy Carter characterized the nature of immigration related to the United States best, as he stated:
“We
become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people,
different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different
dreams.”
We sincerely hope that you will join us as we travel through time to look at how Immigration has shaped us as a nation.
