Mr. Shiner attended Old Dominion University, Kutztown University where he received his B.S. degree in history and Secondary Education and Rowan University for post-graduate studies. His teaching career began in Pa. before moving to New Jersey in 1982 where he secured a faculty position at Middle Township High School. In 1987, he was hired by the Greater Egg Harbor School District, first at Absegami, before later transferring to Oakcrest in 1993. He has taught nearly every subject offered by the Oakcrest High School Social Studies Department. Currently he teachers World History to College Prep freshman and Constitution and Law to elected seniors and juniors. During his time at Oakcrest, Mr. Shiner started the Oakcrest Academic Team and is currently the Head Golf coach. He is also the co-founder of the South Jersey Junior Golf Foundation and the summer golf tournament series, entitled, “The Tour at the Shore”. He has over 20 years of football coaching experience and is an advisor to the Nike Coach of the Year Clinic in Allentown, Pa. Mr. Shiner has coached baseball, worked for the Ripken family at their baseball academy and produced a hitting film, entitled” The Fundamentals of Championship Hitting”. Mr. Shiner’s other activities include coaching youth baseball and is a golf teaching professional at Blue Heron Pines Golf Club. He has two children, Kelsea 13 and Austin 8. He is married to Glynis who teaches Anatomy and Physiology at Absegami High School. He is an avid gardener and enjoys spending time at his cabin in Pa.
