OPENING
CEREMONY |
WEDNESDAY,
MAY 24TH |
- Opening ceremony participants will report directly to homeroom show
yellow pass and then report directly to the football field to get prepared.
- Students will be dismissed from homeroom to the field and will sit
in bleachers separated by grade levels. (7:34, 8 minutes)
- Once seated (7:42), Rise for the National Anthem, then move directly
into the Olympic theme, Parade begins.
- Dave (7:50), band is playing the Olympic music over as the Parade
of “Nations” is
going on. Band will set off to the side of center field. See attached
diagram for details.
- All the students that participated in the events will walk with a Flag.
One nation/flag per event. They will walk in front of the stadium seats,
then around the goal post and stand in rows/groupings between on the
far side of the stadium seats that the students are sitting.
- Entertainment
- Dance (8:02, 8-10 minutes)
- Charlie’s class (8:12, 8-10 minutes) singing
- Color guard (8:22, 8-10 minutes)
- Dance (8:32, 8-10 minutes), senior student will begin as the dance
is ending
- Entry of torch by an Oakcrest senior. (8:42, 2 minutes), hand off to
Betty at the far goal post end of the stadium.
- There will be a single day senior vote in order to determine, which
student the seniors want to carry the torch into the stadium and hand
to Betty.
- Betty will do the symbolic lighting of the torch. (8:44, 4 minutes)
She will come from the far side goalpost and run along sideline of the
football field, then directly down the 50 yard line mark and light the
torch.
- Declaration of games as being “open”, Mr. Jimmy Dunn and
Mrs. Betty Howe (Teachers of the year) (8:48, 5 minutes)
- Dismissal back to homeroom at 8:54
OPENING CEREMONY CONTINGENCY FOR INCLEMENT
WEATHER
- All students involved in events will report to homeroom, show yellow
pass and then come down to the auditorium. They will have Yellow Olympic
passes.
- Senior homerooms will be called down to the auditorium at the end of
homeroom.(7:30)
- All other students will report to their homerooms and will be able
to watch an Olympic related video on Falcon TV. There will be a rotating
schedule of teachers that will be providing teacher breaks/preps during
this timeframe.
- Once seated (7:42), Rise for the National Anthem, then move directly
into the Olympic theme, Parade begins.
- Dave (7:50), band is playing the Olympic theme over and over as the
Parade of “Nations” is going on. Band will walk in the front
of the parade with the Olympic event participants walking behind them
as they play.
- All the students that participated in the events will walk with a Flag.
One nation/flag per event. They will march out of the auditorium through
the side door in front of the main office. Then after passing the office
turn right heading towards the library. They parade will turn left passing
the library and the teachers lounge and then proceed down the lower level
200 wing. At the end of the lower level 200 wing the parade will turn
left going down the ramp and moving past the math office. After passing
the math office the parade will turn right proceeding back up the ramp
and continuing all the way down the corridor until they get to the 400
wing. The parade will turn right passing the nurse’s office and
then go up the three steps; they will turn left heading back down towards
the auditorium. (approximately 8:22) The band will enter through the
side door and stand in front of the stage facing the audience. The Olympic
teams will march back towards the library and turn in front of the auditorium.
They will enter through both sets of center doors and stand in the aisles
quietly watching the last 15 minutes of the ceremony. Color Guard should
be starting their routine on stage, so we must enter as quietly as possible.
- Entertainment: In Auditorium while the parade is going on there will
be entertainment for the seniors.
- Dance (7:55-8:10, 10-15 minutes)
- Charlie’s class (8:12-8:22, 8-10 minutes) singing
- Color guard (8:25-8:35, 8-10 minutes)
- (8:37, 2 minutes), Entry of torch by an Oakcrest senior. The chosen
senior will enter the auditorium through the main entrance doors left
end door. Run down the aisle by the wall and hand off to Betty.
- Betty will do the symbolic lighting of the torch. (8:44, 4 minutes)
- Declaration of games as being “open”, (Mongo or Rulan Gardner)?

- Dismissal back to homeroom at 8:54
