DUTY ASSIGNMENTS
Comprehensive student supervision is a mandated responsibility of all
professional staff. While specific assignments and duties are scheduled,
all professional staff shares the responsibility to supervise students
throughout the day in all areas of the building and on all parts of school
property.
Hall
Duty- This is most effectively completed by making two rounds of each
corridor in the building commencing and ending at your teaching
station.
Specifically:
1. Check lavatories and clear the halls.
2. Check for student passes and escort students who are cutting to their
assigned rooms.
3. Note the names of students found cutting on a cut slip and turn the
cut slip into the main office.

Direct "visitors" to
the front office and notify office via the phone of their presence
in the building. Be alert for any trespassers
and report any suspicions at once.
General
Hall Supervision Between Classes- Teachers are expected to be in hallways
between classes to deter students from running, fooling
around, or making loud noises. Teachers should also check respective
lavatories when walking throughout the building during the day to discourage
cutters, smokers, and vandals.
Cafeteria
Duty- The chairpersons coordinating cafeteria duty will assign teachers
to a specific area in the cafeteria.
Specifically:
1. Report to your assigned duty area.
2. Maintain maximum visibility and supervision.
3. Supervise fair and orderly lunch lines and prevent individuals who
ignore this process.
4. No food is to be taken out of the cafeteria.
5. At the conclusion of each lunch period, all teachers assigned to
the cafeteria will proceed to a designated corridor and/or lavatory area
to provide supervision during the remaining minutes of the administrative
duty period. Specific assignments will be made at the beginning of the
year.
Study
Hall- Study halls are to be quiet study period. Classroom behavior
in study hall is to be treated the same as any class. Students are
to be seated and quiet. Seating charts are to be maintained and available
for substitutes.
Specifically:
1. Take attendance just as you would in any other class.
2. Students having appointments with counselors, etc., will report to
you first for attendance. Students are not to be dismissed from study
hall without proper corridor passes.
3. Students wishing to use the Media Center during study hall must sign
up with their respective study hall teachers.
4. Students should come to study hall prepared to do homework or other
assignments.
5. Specific library use guidelines will be issued by the librarian depending
on study hall sizes and other factors.
Administrative
Assistants- Teachers will report daily to assist where needed and
to carry out administrative-assigned tasks.
Specifically:
1. Greeting students, parents, and visitors in the main office and offices
of the vice- principals.
2. Assist in maintaining order in the area.
3. Giving directions and/or escorting guests to the various offices.
4. Assisting with late sign-in and early sign-out books.
5. Other administrative tasks including class attendance, cutting, monitoring,
and detention recording.
Bus Supervisors- Our students are transported to school by buses. It
is extremely important that high visibility of the supervisors be maintained
to deter any roughhousing, running, or inappropriate behavior by the
students in the bus loading areas.
Specifically:
1. Teachers will report at least five minutes before students are dismissed
from their buses.
2. Teachers will be located at the loading and unloading areas as assigned.
3. Teachers should keep students moving into building or to their buses.
4. Teachers will remain on duty until buses are given signal to depart
by the supervisors at the end of the school day or the end of the activity
period.
5. Teachers will enforce trespassing regulations.
6. Teachers will direct cars to the appropriate parking areas and record
license plate numbers of problematic drivers during arrival and dismissal
times
Lavatory
Supervisor-
Specifically:
1. Teachers should be on duty during the arrival of students into the
building and through the beginning of first period unless they have a first
period class.
2. Teachers should supervise lavatories near their teaching stations
whenever possible by frequenting same.
3. Students found cutting, smoking, etc., should be referred for appropriate
action to their assigned vice-principal by use of a referral form.
Library
Assistant- Teachers assigned to the library should assist in supervising
and maintaining a quiet atmosphere in the area.
Specifically:
1. All students entering the library must present proper corridor passes.
2. Teachers should provide supervision in all areas of the library.
