It is important that parents and students understand that attendance on this trip does not excuse students from the academic responsibilities of their courses which are meeting during the time of the trip. It is the responsibility of students and parents/guardians to review academic standing and responsibilities in each class prior to considering student participation on any school trip. Students are responsible for all class assignments and course work for any and all classes that are missed due to a school trip. Students may make up this work by attending to these responsibilities during the activity period or by making special arrangements with their teacher(s).

Parents should not sign approval for a student’s participation on a school trip without discussing these matters fully with their child. Since there are numerous courses, programs and activities that sponsor school trips, it must be the student and parents who assume responsibility for maintaining the appropriate balance between participating in school trips and the essential commitment to classroom responsibility.
