GENERAL PROCEDURE/INFORMATION

Assemblies

Assemblies are an important segment of the educational program. Assemblies shall be announced as far in advance as possible.

1. Teacher presence and visibility are essential for the success of an assembly program. Supervision is needed both to and from the auditorium. Teachers should not stand or congregate in the back of the auditorium but should stand along the side walls or be seated among the student population.

2. Assembly programs are scheduled according to graduating class as well as according to subject or activity areas. Since many courses have a mixture of students, it is difficult to arrange for a high structured auditorium seating arrangement. When possible, assemblies will be scheduled using homeroom organization. Accordingly, the following general procedure should apply unless an individual assembly warrants a change:

A. Teachers should escort their classes to the auditorium. Upon arrival, teachers should assist with the seating of the students from their class or homeroom. Teachers should stay with their class or homeroom. Teachers not having a class or homeroom should report to that area of the auditorium that has been assigned to their department chairperson.
B. The auditorium should be conceived as having six sections including the front ten rows of each of the three sections and the rear ten rows of each section. The east side is the closest to the office.
C. The departments and the teaching staff who are present in the auditorium should be present in the locations indicated. Dismissal from the auditorium will be according to the the sections described here:

East Front- Math, Science Staffs - exit by Door #1

East Rear- Special Education Staff- exit by Door #2

Center Front- Physical Education Staff - exit by Door #3

Center Rear- English, Reading, Performing Arts Staffs -exit by Door #4

West Rear- Business, Language Staffs - exit by Door #5

West Front- Social Studies, Art Staffs - exit by Door #6

D. The Guidance and other staff members not listed should assist in the corridor areas and then be seated among the student population.
E. Faculty members should not be standing in the rear of the auditorium or outside the auditorium but should be with their classes or homerooms stationed in the assigned departmental areas either in seats or along the side walls or aisles.
F. Prior to an assembly, teachers should review the seating procedures and explain to students the importance of appropriate student behavior.
