PROFESSIONAL DAYS
The "Professional Day" is
one in which the staff member is excused from his/her regular assignment
so that he/she may attend, visit,
participate or review a program that is directly related to the professional
assignment of the staff member.
Examples are:
· to observe the organization and functioning of a
reading program which has apparently met with a great deal of success to
see how we might adapt
it in our reading program
· to observe an adaptive physical education
program to aid in incorporating that activity in our curriculum
· to
study independent study in schools where it has been successful, to determine
its applicability to our school
REQUEST PROCEDURE
The staff member shall complete form (Request for Professional
Absence) in which she/he clearly states the reason for the visit; where
she/he
is going; what she/he hopes to find and what prompted she/he to select
this particular program. When the Professional Day Request is related
to activities or inter-scholastic athletics, the request form will
be sent first to the activity supervisor or athletic supervisor and
then to the department supervisor. Additionally, when the Professional
Day Request form is submitted, a current photo copy of the teacher's
current driver's license, car registration, and insurance card must
also be submitted, if the staff member plans to use their own car.
The approval of the assistant superintendent shall constitute authorization
for the school visit with travel reimbursement.
FOLLOW-UP PROCEDURE
Upon the completion of the Professional Day, a request
for reimbursement shall be made on Expense Voucher for Travel Form. The
business administrator
requests that items for reimbursement be itemized as to type of expense
and be accompanied by receipts.
The short summary of the nature of the event or program attended is
required on the Expense Voucher for Travel and is used by the principal
for
his/her monthly report to the superintendent.
The information obtained is expected to be shared with appropriate school
personnel when applicable. The participant may be requested to report
to the entire staff at a general faculty meeting.
