STUDENT EXPECTATIONS/DISCIPLINE
Detention
Teacher Detention- Detentions will be issued to students when in the judgment
of the teacher, the student will benefit by being detained and counseled.
No teacher should detain a student solely for punitive reasons. The teacher
issuing the detention must supervise the student at all times.
No
teacher should issue numerous detentions to any student. Habitual violators
should be referred to the department supervisor for further action. Detention will be conducted after school during the Activity Period on Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Thursday. Students should report directly to the teacher
issuing the detention.
Classroom teacher detentions are issued for disturbances and infractions
of classroom behavior guidelines as measured by the teacher's discretion
and school policies. This type of detention must be held by the individual
teacher and is not to be handled as an office detention. When a student
fails to serve a detention, the department supervisor should be notified
by referral so that further action can be taken.
Office
Detention- Office detentions will be issued only by administrators and
supervisors, or the administrative assistants and will be issued for
violations of school rules or when other steps have failed to resolve the
problem.
Office detention will be conducted after school as scheduled by the vice-principal.
Students are to report directly to the detention room area after the 8th
period class. Students will be under the supervision of the teachers assigned
to detention supervision as an administrative duty.
Late
Detention- These detentions are designed to be discipline sanctions for
various offenses and will be issued by the administrators, supervisors,
or administrative assistants. Students will report to the assigned area
and be supervised by assigned teaching staff. Arrangements to serve late
detentions will be made between the appropriate vice-principal, student,
and the parent/guardian.
Saturday
Detention-These detentions may be assigned in lieu of in-school suspension
or out-of-school suspension. These arrangements will be made
in conjunction with parent permission as transportation will be the responsibility
of the parent.
