TEACHER
ABSENCE AND SUBSTITUTE INFORMATION
Procedure for Reporting Teacher Absence
If a teacher knows in advance that he or she will be absent, the following
procedure should be followed:
Five school days prior to the day of absence (except in cases of emergency),
the teacher should complete the absence form and return it to the supervisor.
Notification of approval will follow. If a teacher does not know the
absence until the day the absence is to occur, the following procedures
should be followed:
Call 625-5297 to report the request on voice mail. No calls can be placed
after 6:30am on the morning of the absence as it is impossible to provide
substitute coverage after that time.
Staff must state the name, school, department, reason for absence and
date of absence. Plans and other information should not be given to
the recording device.
In cases of death in family, the specific relationship needs to be given.
In those instances in which an emergency personal day is being requested,
the necessary form must be completed upon the return to work. All professional
day requests must be pre-filed and approved.
In addition to calling 625-5297,
teachers must also call their supervisor to provide plans and additional
information.
FOR
EXTREME EMERGENCIES ONLY please call the Principal’s Office
after 7:00am on the morning of the emergency but no substitute can be
made available.
SUPERVISOR
RESPONSIBILITY- Supervisors will record daily, on sheets provided,
both teacher absences and substitute performance summary.
These sheets should be submitted to the District Payroll Office every
Monday. If no absences occur on a given date, it should be so stated.
