Introduction:

Welcome to Mr. Sera's U.S. History class at Oakcrest High School! With 20 years of teaching experience, I am excited to guide students through the fascinating events that have shaped our nation. Our class will focus on engaging, hands-on activities that bring history to life and encourage critical thinking. I look forward to partnering with both students and parents to ensure a successful and enriching academic year. Let's embark on this journey through America's past together!


BIO:

I've been teaching History at Oakcrest High School for 20 years. I'm a firm believer in hands-on learning and engaging students through interactive activities and providing opportunities to actively get involved in organizing community events. I have an undergraduate degree in social work from Syracuse University and a master's degree in education from Lehigh University.

Zero Period:

I'm available for extra help on A and B days in room 312.

Class Resources:

All class materials and communications will be on Google Classrooms.

Grading Policy:

50% Assessments - Tests, Formal Papers/ Essays, Major Project, & Quizzes

40% Assignments - Classwork, Participation, Informal Papers/ Essays, & Smaller Projects

10% Progress Assessment - At the end of each trimester 

Late Policy:

First 3  Days Late - 20%

After 3 Days Late - 40%

Class Rules:

  1. Work hard every day.

  2. Respect the classroom.

  3. Respect each other.

  4. Be on time to class.

  5. Don’t line up at the door at the end of class.  Stay in your seat till the bell rings.

Electronic Policy:

  1. Students will need the school issued Chromebook or their own laptop computer every day of class.   

  2. Use of AI - AI will be used in class and specific guidelines will be provided in the written directions for each assignment.

  3. There will be no cellphone or other electronic use without the specific permission of the teacher.
