Oakcrest Media and Sports Management students in Mr. Thomas' and Mr. Ponzetti's classes visited the NBA's broadcasting facility in Secaucus for a hands-on look at what goes into getting a game from the court to a tv screen. The tour gave students a look into the various media departments resposible for covering a live game and was facilitated by Oakcrest Media alumni Alana Conti at NBA headquarters.

On Valentine's Day, Oakcrest's Kindness Club, advised by teachers Trish Daley and Jen DePalma, spread the love around campus by writing and posting hundreds of sticky notes that featured positive messages, which were available for students and staff to grab as a mid-winter pick-me-up! Thanks to all responsible for these random acts of kindness! 🫶

In mid-February, Oakcrest's Ski Club, advised by math teacher Josh Miller, took their annual trip...this time to beautiful Stratton Mountain Resort in Vermont.  The group was joined by students and staff from Creek and Absegami, and they had a blast skiing, snowboarding, and enjoying their beautiful alpine views.

Props to Oakcrest's Mock Trial team, advised by history teacher Kim Cramer. Over the course of four months, its members worked diligently alongside coaches (lawyers from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office who graciously volunteered their time) to prepare for the civil liability case they'd been assigned. The Plaintiff Team was led by Alex DaGrossa and Ana Lisojo. Plaintiff witnesses included Ava Mokienko, Matthew Poblete and Joseph Marengo. Four of these five participants were new to the program this year. The Defense Team was led by Adrienna Foo and Leila VonSander. Defense witnesses included Kaitlyn Ho, Andrew Poblete, and a last minute addition of Gracie Sykes. Again, most of this group was new to Mock Trial. Congrats again to all the participants, especially the Plaintiffs, who earned a victory!

In honor of Love Day, today's Alumni Spotlight is on the Trumblak family! Joe and Michaela (née Allen) are both members of the Oakcrest Class of 2014. After their departure from the Nest, both Michaela and Joe attended Florida Tech, where they studied STEM Education and Chemical Engineering, respectively. The Trumblaks were married in the spring of 2021 and now live in Pittsburgh with their adorable daughter, Maisie, who turns 2 in May. In addition to parenting a toddler, both Trumblaks work full time: Joe as a mechanical engineer for Naval Nuclear Laboratory and Michaela in the office of Community Affairs and Diversity & Inclusion at PNC Bank. Although Michaela and Joe are currently pursuing Masters degrees, the family still makes time to enjoy all that their city has to offer, such as public parks, the zoo, and a recreational volleyball league. Happy Valentine's Day to the Trumblaks, who are so thankful for the friendships, opportunities, and community that OHS gifted them! 💝💙💝

Last Friday, Falcon Nation briefly put away its blue and gray to enthusiastically sport Eagles green! The staff came together and threw an epic pre-Super Bowl Tailgate, where Philly fans (and a soon-to-be sad Chief supporter or two) enjoyed a ton of football-themed food, conversation, and camaraderie. Same trademark Oakcrest spirit...different bird! 🏈💚🦅

Do you know this Oakcrest High School Class of 1999 graduate? It's Oak's head football coach, Mike Forest! In addition to guiding kids on the field, Coach Mike now works for Greater Egg mentoring students at Absegami, Cedar Creek, and Oakcrest as the District's At Risk Coordinator. Falcon Pride is a family affair for the Forests: Zicri is a member of the OHS Class of 2025 and will attend James Madison University in the fall, and Zane, who currently attends William Davies Middle School, is excited to be a member of the Oakcrest High School Class of 2029! Os up! 💙🙆🏈

Today's Community Spotlight is on Mrs. Amanda Scamoffa-Dyas!  Amanda is a proud and involved mom to Oakcrest sophomore Luke Dyas AND the owner of the Bake Works in Northfield, where she whips up delicious cakes, cookies, pies and other goodies!  Despite the demands of running a small business, Amanda finds time to serve as an integral member of our Boys' Soccer and Boys' LAX booster clubs.  She has also been SO supportive of the OHS Class of 2027, helping to plan and execute fundraisers for their upcoming senior trip to Florida.  A big thanks and shout out to Mrs. Scamoffa-Dyas for all she does for the Nest!  👏👏👏

The Oakcrest Knitting Club was hard at work in mid-December at its Annual Knitathon, where, over the span of four hours, members created scarves for folks in crisis. The garments were recently donated to the Atlantic City location of Covenant House, which helps area youth facing homelessness. Props to all the young ladies who donated their time on a Saturday morning to make the world a warmer place! 🧶💙🧣

Students in Ms. Megill's Adventures in Literature classes were recently transported to Hogwarts for her annual Sorting Hat ceremony! These Oakcrest Juniors and Seniors, who are currently reading the 3rd installment of the Harry Potter series, learned which House - Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin - best represents their personality. A magical time was had by all! ✨🧙‍♂️✨
